Just found Eden sitting on the floor rocking her baby to sleep

Monday 28 May 2012

I could hear Eden wake and start crying. Nobody move! I froze in bed and the crying stopped. I fell back asleep. The crying started back again. It wasn't much of a cry, just enough to get your attention. It stopped. Again I fell asleep. This goes on 2-3 more times. Finally I wake up, but there's no crying. I decide I better go check. I tuck Jensen in and carefully tip toe in her door. She can't see me because of where her cot is to the door. I can hear her breathing and it isn't her sleeping breathing. It's like she has X-ray vision because she's just sitting there, watching the door, waiting. She cries again, I pick her up and ask what's wrong. She stops crying and wraps her arms around me so tight, like she hasn't seen me in months. I just Rick her, she picks her head up and wriggles and changes position, butt has gone to sleep. It's a light sleep, but sleep nonetheless. I try to lay her into position to get ready to put her to bed, but she works it out, wriggles back into a seated position. I sit in my rocking chair with her legs on one side of me and her head on my chest and just cuddle and rock. She has a firm grip on me, while still being asleep. This is perfect. I've never just sat and rocked with Eden. I put her into her cot still in her cuddle 'shape' with a blanket at her back to keep it warm and a blanket over top, too. Sleep tight baby girl. Love you. x

Jensen (to Andrew): "Can I tell you something?"
Andrew: "What?"
Jensen: "Be nice to my mum!"

The failed trip to Miles

The Failed Miles Trip

I had 3 week of prac. Then I wanted a break. A nice family break. Andrew suggested Miles, as the kids hadn't been there yet, and some of the family hadn't met either child. I finished my prac at 3:30, so I could make it home by 4, have a shower and be back in the car for a trip - stopping in Pittsworth overnight to break up the journey. Ok, so I finished at 3, was home by 3:30. Bargain! Even more time to get started !

Except the car wasn't packed (as offered) and bags weren't packed. Eden's bag had been packed the night before, but not her nappies. Bags packed, car packed, everyone in the car, we left at 5.

We joked all the way to Toowoomba about things we'd left behind. Pillows. A blanket  incase it was really cold, Eden's ted that she has a new found attachment to.

What got me the most was we were nearing Pittsworth, and it dawned on me. Eden's bag of clothes. With every piece of warm clothing she owns, was still sitting on the floor IN HER ROOM.
I was ok with it until we got out and saw the family and I just burst into tears. Thankfully, Andrew's aunty runs a shop that sells clothes, and gave me some from there (saying they were for birthdays/christmas etc). Oh, yeah, and I dug out some flannelette pajamas for me from the cupboard from before Eden was born to take with me, put them on and they were faaarrr to big. So,  the sleep I got was uncomfortable.

Then I remembered my cousin in Toowoomba, so in the morning, after a night where neither child wanted to stay asleep (I had about 3 hours broken sleep) we back tracked and picked them up.

Saturday found Jensen not feeling well, and Eden's barely snotty nose now pouring. We finally arrived in Miles, around morning tea time.  The kids had a bit of a play, then we ducked off to the store for supplies and headed out to our camping spot for the night. The day was fine, and for dinner we had camp-oven roast lamb and pork with veges (which Jensen ate! He rarely eats meat, so this was a big thing!).

Again, the kids wouldn't sleep. Another 3 hours of broken sleep.

MOTHERS DAY! was Sunday. Despite how absolutely stupidly tired I was, my mothers day present from Jensen made me cry. A hand-made necklace, made at Kindy, bath milk, chocolates, and - this is what made me cry - a coaster with a flower on it. The flower was painted using Jensen's finger prints. On the back was a little poem. I didn't get breakfast in bed, but Ranger Nick made bacon and eggs for breakfast, then Andrew and Nick did the dishes.

Eden's nose continued to pour and you could hear her wheeze and cough like I was going to have to take her to the hospital. Jensen wouldn't play on the low ropes course or play archery with Nick and Andrew, he was just that sick. We decided that we would skip visiting the rest of the family in Roma, and just head back home today.

ALL THAT WAY - 6hrs driving - for an overnight stay :(

The next week, we are told that an Aunty, living in Miles, is having her 80th birthday party at the end of June, and we'll be heading back out for that. Hopefully, the kids wont be sick that weekend...

Joke time!

"Mum, can I tell you a joke?"
"Sure!"
"Do cars eat people?"
"Um, I don't know. Do cars eat people?"
"When you get in, and buckle up, it eats you!"

Thursday 24 May 2012

The kids are "shopping" in the 2nd drawer, the utensils drawer.

Jensen has 'bought' spoons and cookie cutters, and has 'bought' stuff for Eden, who had also been 'shopping'.

I have some boxes that I used to bring the shopping (actual grocery shopping) home in, and they're taking their shopping home in the boxes - right after they make a house!
Dinner must be good! I had a request for it to be made tomorrow night, and Eden's slurping chicken out of a bowl!

I made chicken carbonara in the stack cooker.

Wednesday 23 May 2012

Today I folded 4 baskets of washing (and put all but Eden's away), vaccuumed all the floors, did all the dishes, cleaned the loungeroom (and did a bit of rearranging in there) and it still looks like I did stuff all today. There are somehow MORE dishes than before, washing in the drier (and washing that's just come out of the drier - all because the stupid weather is sunny in the morning and crazy cold and overcast by 11), and still clothes are everywhere.

I can't win.
Jensen is desperate to go to the gym, but Andrew doesn't want to take him. As I ask Andrew how he's going to break Jensen's heart by saying no, he can't go, Jensen calls out ... "Where's my sweat band?!"

Andrew let him go with him, and Jensen ran all 1.5km there!
Jensen is talking on a pretend phone, his conversations are so funny!

"yes yes.... Mummy, Aunty Lea wants to know if we have any disposable nappies?" I respond, but he says "mummy says no we don't have disposable nappies in this house. Eden got spots from wearing them"

Now he's calling Oma, Pop and Nanna and they're asking about disposable nappies too.

Wednesday 9 May 2012

My mother in law looked after the kids on Monday (public holiday) while we went to the gym. We were half an
Hour late coz the time on the gym website was wrong, but anyway...
She said Eden did a poo in her nappy, made the 'yuk' face ( screws up her face and poke her tongue out), then riddled over and lifted the lid to her potty and sat down!

Might be time to start toilet training soon!

Tuesday 8 May 2012

She speaks!

Andrew showed Eden a photo of Jensen and she pointed at it and said "Jensen!" (with out the final 'n' sound). Aw, so proud!

Saturday 5 May 2012

Jensen loves Nanna to the moon and back.
Daddy to Earth and back.
Mummy and Pop to Mars and back.
Eden to Saturn and back.

Wednesday 2 May 2012

Paranoid that being on placement is going to cause Eden to wean. While not an entirely bad thing, I was just hoping to feed her longer. She's desperate for milk when I get home and feeds for ages (coz holy moly there's some milk waiting!). I was hoping for 18 months of breast feeding, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. It's about 1/2 way through prac now.
